Heads up everyone!
We have scheduled a Star party.
Time: October the 4th at 7:20pm. We'll stay out until around 9:30pm.
Location: Croton dam western side, park off Rte 129 (carpool if possible).
Bring: Extra warm clothes, jacket, gloves, hat, etc... it's exposed up there. Flashlight. Binoculars (if you have them).
Persistent cloud cover (around 20-25% coverage) cancels.
If you can't count more than 10 stars at any one time the event is cancelled.
We will try to send an email to this list to let you know.
In addition to other things up in the sky that night, Comet Hartley will be in view and we'll try to find it.
You can find out more about Comet Hartley at this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/103P/Hartley
If you want to explore the sky, Stellarium is one of the best programs available (and it's FREE): stellarium.org. You can even set the Star Party date into it and see what the sky is going to look like (which planets will be up, star names and data, constellations).
Please take a moment now to send this note to anyone who you think might want to get onto this email list.
All you have to do is send an email to [email protected] to get on the list.
All ages welcome.
