to the west of the noonday sun are the stars that were up when the day had just begun.

to the east of the sun are the stars that will come out when this very day is very nearly done.

I always wished that I could see the stars during daylight.

They are always there. During a full solar eclipse you can see the stars appear in the daytime sky.
